Job Summary
The Production Geologist will provide geological support for field development, drilling and production activities across OML 30. Working closely with Petrophysicists, Reservoir Engineers and other members of the Technical team, the role will develop and update reservoir models, interpret subsurface data, support well planning and contribute to reservoir characterisation and reserves assessment.
Job Details
The Production Geologist will be responsible for:
- Prepare and update subsurface structural depth maps for fields across OML 30.
- Develop geological and stratigraphic cross-sections along strike and dip to support field reviews and subsurface opportunity evaluations.
- Monitor and track drilling operations and compare planned well trajectories and depths against actual results.
- Archive and manage comprehensive well data, including well logs, deviation surveys, formation tops, stratigraphic data and structural data.
- Participate in field reviews and quality assurance of proposed well plans.
- Collaborate with Reservoir Engineers to determine appropriate subsurface well locations.
- Analyse seismic data and prepare time, amplitude, fault-surface and depth maps.
- Prepare geological sections of End-of-Well Reports for newly drilled wells.
- Maintain audit trails of acquired saturation data.
- Calculate gross rock volumes and prepare net-pay and hydrocarbon-pore-volume maps to support oil-initially-in-place estimates and reserves assessments.
- Review geological and geophysical work programmes and budget plans.
- Build fit-for-purpose three-dimensional geocellular models for OML 30 fields and compare internally developed models with vendor outputs.
- Supervise core and coring operations, ensuring that approved acquisition and handling procedures are followed.
- Conduct advanced seismic interpretation, structural mapping and reservoir characterisation.
- Identify exploration, appraisal and field-development opportunities.
- Integrate geological, petrophysical, geophysical and geomechanical data.
- Review drilling and End-of-Well Reports for new and existing wells.
- Validate external technical datasets and present prospect maturity, risk analyses and volumetric assessments to senior management.
- Participate in geoscience studies and support technical and cost-control activities.
- Design and conduct analytical studies relating to coring and core analysis.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior-level geologists.
- Ensure all activities comply with applicable corporate, regulatory and HSSE requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Science or a related discipline, with a minimum of Second-Class Lower Honours.
- A master’s degree in Geology, Geophysics or Earth Science will be an advantage.
- Membership of relevant professional bodies such as NAPE, NMGS or AAPG.
- COMEG registration is preferred.
- At least 10 years’ relevant oil and gas industry experience.
- Strong experience in production geology, reservoir characterisation and geological modelling.
- Advanced knowledge of seismic interpretation and structural mapping.
- Demonstrated ability to build new static reservoir models and update existing models.
- Experience in well planning, drilling support and field-development activities.
- Knowledge of volumetric assessment, reserves evaluation and subsurface-risk analysis.
- Experience integrating geological, petrophysical, geophysical and geomechanical data.
- Experience supervising core acquisition, handling and core-analysis activities.
- Advanced working knowledge of industry-standard geoscience interpretation and modelling applications, including Petrel and Techlog.
- Proficiency in relevant Microsoft applications.
- Ability to take ownership, work independently and prioritise competing responsibilities.
- Strong analytical, presentation and technical-reporting skills.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and mentor junior team members.
