Job Summary

The Drilling Engineer will support the planning and safe execution of drilling, completion, workover and well intervention activities across OML 30. The role will contribute throughout the lifecycle of the wells and fields, ensuring that operations are properly designed, cost-effective, compliant with regulatory and HSSE requirements, and delivered in collaboration with relevant internal teams, contractors and service providers.

Job Details

The Drilling Engineer will report to the GM, Technical and provide technical and operational support for the delivery of the Company’s drilling, completion, workover and well intervention programmes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop comprehensive drilling and well programmes in line with corporate policies, standards, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare detailed well designs covering well objectives, casing programmes, drill-string design, bottom-hole assembly selection, hydraulics calculations and contingency procedures.
  • Prepare detailed well intervention work programmes.
  • Conduct offset-well analyses.
  • Prepare pore-pressure and fracture-gradient analyses in collaboration with Reservoir Engineers.
  • Prepare Authorisation for Expenditure documents for planned well activities.
  • Ensure that detailed risk assessments are completed and that identified operational risks are appropriately managed and mitigated.
  • Provide technical and operational support for rig-based activities.
  • Supervise and monitor well drilling and well-control operations.
  • Monitor and interpret real-time drilling data.
  • Oversee casing, cementing and completion activities.
  • Interface with Subsurface, Production Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain and other relevant teams to deliver safe and successful well operations.
  • Coordinate with contractors and suppliers and monitor their performance against agreed KPIs and scorecards.
  • Review daily drilling reports and support the timely preparation of End-of-Well Reports.
  • Organise After-Action Reviews and document lessons learned for future drilling campaigns.
  • Capture, analyse and close out lessons learned and non-productive-time events.
  • Ensure well-status diagrams accurately reflect well construction and the completion equipment used.
  • Keep abreast of new and emerging drilling and well-engineering technologies.
  • Support well-integrity implementation plans and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to cost management, performance optimisation and the safe delivery of drilling opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower Honours.
  • A Master of Engineering degree will be an advantage.
  • Current IWCF or IADC certification.
  • Relevant drilling- and completion-related training certifications from reputable and recognised institutions.
  • At least 10 years’ relevant oil and gas industry experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in drilling, completion, well engineering and drilling optimisation.
  • Strong knowledge of well planning and programme design.
  • Experience preparing detailed well designs, drilling programmes and intervention work programmes.
  • Knowledge of drilling operations, well control, casing, cementing and completion activities.
  • Ability to monitor and interpret real-time drilling data.
  • Strong understanding of HSSE standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in cost management and operational performance optimisation.
  • Strong analytical, reporting and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and organisational skills.
